William Bageant was born in 1727 in England, son of Richard Bageant who married Mary Mineter in 1722/1723. He joined the Royal Artillery and in 1755 sailed for America as part of General Braddock's Army. The detailed family tree researched by Vera Bagent of William's Bageant and Bagent American descendants is shown below.

Generation No. 1

1.  RICHARD1  BAGEANT1 was born in England.  He married MARY MINETER2 February 12, 1722/23 in Folkstone, Kent, England3.  She was born  in England4.

Children of RICHARD BAGEANT and MARY MINETER are:
     2.    i.    WILLIAM2  BAGEANT, SR, b. Abt. October 29, 1727, England; d. Abt. 1766, Winchester, Frederick Co., Virginia.
    ii.    SARAH BAGEANT, b. October 1729, Folkstone, Kent, England4; d. England; m. ROBERT BAKER, July 27, 1755, Folkstone, Kent, England4; b. 1730, Folkstone, Kent, England4; d. England.
iii.    RICHARD BAGEANT, b. September 1, 1731, Folkstone, Kent, England4; m. MARY AUSTIN, September 6, 1756, Folkstone, Kent, England; b. July 1730, Folkstone, Kent, England.

      Generation No. 2

2.  WILLIAM2  BAGEANT, SR (RICHARD1)4 was born Abt. October 29, 1727 in England5, and died Abt. 1766 in Winchester, Frederick Co., Virginia6.  He married ELEANOR NLN7 September 5, 1753 in England.  She died Abt. 1778 in Winchester, Frederick Co., Virginia8.

Notes for WILLIAM BAGEANT, SR:
William Bageant was Christened 29 Oct 1727 in Folkestone, Kent, England.
Source:  Joe Bageant, computer contact:  Jan-00 Joe collects research and artifacts from Bagent descendents.  He is very generous in sharing what information he has on the Bagent family.  He has a document dated 1566 written on calfskin.  This document is addressed to a Lieutenant Joffse Bajeant and is from Lyon, France.  It is written in old French and is suppose to be a commission to a government post.  It had been signed with wax seals by five French officials.  This document is a good source of proof that the Bagent's were originally from France.  The Bagent's found in England could have fled France at the time of Maria De Medic and the Huguenot Rebellion.  Further information from Joe Bageant includes: William and Eleanor were from Saltwood, in Kent, England.  Saltwood is a suburb of Hythe on the SE Coast of England, close to Dover.  He was a husbandman (farmer), but joined the Royal Artillery.  In 1755 he sailed for America as part of General Edward Braddock's Army.  William arrived at Hampton Roads (Norfolk, VA) on Feb 20, 1755.  He later died of a fever and his sons were apprenticed to Quakers, when they were 10 and 6.

From my research:  Gen Braddock was charged with the task of building a road from Baltimore, MD to  Fort Dusquene (Pittsburgh, PA.) and to keep the territory from the French and Indians.   The Continental troops under the command of  Col. George Washington were added to General Braddocks troops, Col Washington being second in command of the Army.  The Army engaged the French and Indians and were beaten back but not before Gen Braddock was killed.  Washington assumed command, he ordered the General buried in the middle of the road and the retreating army marched over his grave.  This maneuver was to prevent the enemy from finding the body and discovering the General had been killed.  William may have been with this group in the artillery and station at Fort Loudoun in Winchester, VA, where his sons William Jr, and John were born.  This information is also found in Frederick Co. VA records, and in William Jr's application for pension (Rev War).
Source: From the Historian's Guide to Loudoun County, Virginia Pg 86. The Loudoun Record.  August 28, 1757
"In a "Size Roll" for the company of the Virginia Regiment serving directly under George Washington, the only soldier listed from Loudoun County is a David McGennett (sic-David McGinnis?) aged 40.  The roll indicated that McGennett enlisted in March of 1756, was a "Sawyer" by trade, 5'6" in height, born in Ireland, brown complexion, hair brown and strait, he had a very dirty "Lubberly Look."  Several soldiers were enrolled from FAIRFAX Co., VA:  William Bagent, aged 31; Francis Framer, 22; William Stephens, 20; William Baylis, 35, (I have found Bagents with this last name spelling); William Geram, 24; and Edward Brown aged 29. (G. Washingtons Papers, IV)
Another record which counters that of Frederick Co., VA records and William Jr.'s statement in his application for pension.  William Bagent was described in the Size Roll of Col. Washington as: William Bagent, Sept 1754, Fairfax Co., VA, age 31, height 5'4 1/2", Sawyer, born in England, dark complexion, brown hair. (Source: VA Colonial Soldiers by Lloyd DeWitt Bockstruck)  If this record is valid then William Bagent signed on with Col. Washington at least 5 months before Gen Braddock arrived in America.  He was living in Fairfax Co., VA, and had as his son wrote many years later, he was in Gen. Braddocks Army, but not under the British, he served under Col. G. Washington.
November 25, 1758 - Col. George Washington and several companies of the Virginia militia participate in the taking of Ft. Duquesne.  (Colonial VA, p. 185)
There may have been a Bagent that came over with Gen Braddock and settled in Virginia as there is a record that states Wm. Bagent landed at Hampton's Road with Gen. Braddock.  What happened to this person I haven't discovered unless they are one and the same.  I have not seen this record myself.

Notes for ELEANOR NLN:
Eleanor may have been born in the Shennendoa Valley to Moses Henry.  Have only come across one reference to this information.  No documentary evidence has been found.
On Oct 21, 1768, Eleanor Bajeant  of Winchester, VA, signed an Indenture document placing her son William, 10 years and 6 months into an apprentice-ship with Meshack Sexton of Winchester, VA.  He was a Cordwainer, (Leather worker).  William was to serve him until he reached the age of 21 years.  Meshack Sexton was to teach William to read and write, and to "Cypher as far as the Rule of Three."  William was to receive a Set of Cordwainer tools and Freedom dues according to the Custom of the Country at the end of his indenture.  The indenture document was filed on Nov 4, 1768, in the County of Frederick, Village of Winchester, VA. (Have copy vb)  William's Father may have been ill or even deceased at this time, there is no record of his death.   When William applied for his war pension he did not sign his application, he made his mark.  He could have been too old to write or perhaps he wasn't taught to read and write as in the indenture contract.
Eleanor Bagent was recorded in the Frederick Parish Vestry Book as nursing and/or boarding the poor of the parish.  From November 15, 1764 to November 13, 1767 she is listed as the assignee of Robert Rutherford and is paid or credited in Pounds, Shillings, and Pence.  She is again listed beginning in November 26, 1770 and through April 25, 1778.  There is no entry for 1772.  Her name on the records was spelled Elioner and Eleaner.
It was in 1770 that her other son John was bound to George Sexton... "On August 7, 1770 the court ordered the church wardens to bind John Bejeant, a poor orphan, to George Sexton."  John was nine years old on August 10, 1770.
County courts had the authority and responsibility of apprenticing poor orphans.  If the father was dead, a child was considered an orphan and if the estate was not productive enough to support the child, the court bound him as an apprentice to a responsible artisan."   John did not fulfill his apprentice-ship.  At the age of 16 he joined the Army to fight in the Revolutionary War.  His war experience can be found in his second application for a Rev War pension, which was granted.
There is the possibility that George Sexton was the father of Meshack Sexton, and that both boys lived on the same farm in Winchester, VA. This information has not been researched.  However, the apprenticeship of John would have brought the brothers together for at least the next ten years.  From the records I have come across I believe the brothers formed a strong bond perhaps during their apprentice-ship.  They named their children after each other, and both named a daughter Catharine, it is possible there was a Catharine on the Sexton farm, or there was a sister by that name, questionable  records of other children to this family have been found.
An Elizabeth Bageant mar. William Coffman in Frederick Co., VA, Moses Henry, surety Bond Book.  Another entry:  sons (of ?) Wm, John, James, Thomas, dau. Elizabeth. (From Handley Library, Winchester VA  May 7, 2003)

Children of WILLIAM BAGEANT and ELEANOR NLN are:
      3.    i.    WILLIAM3  BAGENT, JR., b. May 1, 1757, Winchester, Frederick Co., VA; d. October 19, 1837, Lovittsville, Loudoun Co., Virginia.
4.    ii.    JOHN BAGEANT, SR., b. August 10, 1761, Fort Loudoun, Winchester, Virginia; d. 1832, Timber Ridge, Frederick Co., VA.
iii.    MARY BAGEANT, b. Abt. 1764; m. WILLIAM PHILLIPS, 1782.
iv.    ELIZABETH BAGENT, b. Abt. 1765; m. WILLIAM COFFMAN, July 27, 1795, Frederick Co.,  MD.

Notes for ELIZABETH BAGENT:
Elizabeth was found in the Marriage records of Frederick Co. MD,   Moses Henry - Surety Bond Book as perhaps being the daughter of Wm & Eleanor Bagent of Winchester, VA.

      Generation No. 3

3.  WILLIAM3  BAGENT, JR. (WILLIAM2 BAGEANT, SR, RICHARD1)9,10 was born May 1, 1757 in Winchester, Frederick Co., VA11, and died October 19, 1837 in Lovittsville, Loudoun Co., Virginia12.  He married BARBARA RAPPIN November 30, 1784 in Middletown, Frederick County, Maryland13, daughter of APPELLONIA RAPPIN.  She was born in Possibly MD, and died Aft. 1840 in Loudoun Co., Virginia.

Notes for WILLIAM BAGENT, JR.:
William Bajent (Bagent, Bageant) was apprenticed to Meshack Sexton, when he was 10 years old.  This was the result of his Father's death or illness.  He was drafted in the militia for a span of six months (Sept 1777)  to march against the Indians " ordered that the said Bajent do return to his said Master's Service as soon as the draft is expired, and that the said term be allowed in his service." quote from a court record that was held for Frederick County, VA, Sept 2, 1777.  Heard by John Smith, Joseph Holmes, William Gibbs, Edward McGuire, and Thomas Helm (presiding), Gentlemen Justices.  Source:  Minute Book 1773 - 1780, Frederick County, VA records in the Virginia State Archives.  Found in Genealogical Records, Historical Records of Old Frederick County, VA.

In June 1781 he enlisted in the Cavalry of the 1st Virginia Regiment commanded by Co. Nelson.   He saw action in Petersburg, Portsmouth, Yorktown, and Winchester, VA.  After the war he moved to Frederick Co., MD. Then in 1800 he moved his family to Loudoun Co., VA.

The 1790 Federal census shows he is living in Frederick Co., MD with his wife and four daughters.
The 1810 Federal census shows he is living in Loudoun Co, VA there are 2 males under 10, one male 10 to 16, and one male 45 or over.  There is one female under 10, six females 16 to 26 and one female 45 or over. There were also 2 other free persons except Indians living in the household.
The 1820 Federal census, Loudoun Co., VA shows two males under 10, one male 10 to 15, one male 40 to 50, one female five to ten, and one female 40 to 50.
The 1830 Federal census Loudoun Co., VA shows two males 5 to 10, one male 30 to 40, and one male 80 to 90.  Two females under 5, and one female 20 to 30.
Barbara evidently died sometime between 1820 and 1830.
The male 80 to 90 could have been the result of misinformation or the census taker used the wrong column.  William was in his late 70's at that time.  (FLAG- This information differs from other census records as William aged twenty years rather than ten, as the official years between census taking)
William Bageant applied for a Revolutionary War pension 11 March 1833, at the age of 78 years.  It was granted 5 March 1834 for $100.00 a year. Pension number 9098.  He lived in Loudoun County VA at the time.   From the VA Pension Roll of 1835, (copied and Indexed by Wm R Navey. Notes for BARBARA RAPPIN:
Found on RootsWeb:  From Maryland German Church Records, Vol 5, Evangelical Reformed Church, Frederick, Frederick Co., MD 1746-1789.
I believe this family to be that of Barbara's, in my research for more information on Barbara I have  found several references to Barbara Rapp, including her being a witness to the marriage of Margaret Rapp.  I have found reference to a Margaret Rappin in the same book, Frederick Co., MD marriages.  Margaret is listed as a witness to several marriages.
I have found a Jacob Rapp b. abt. 1745 being mar. to Barbara Brengle b. abt. 1750, mar. 21 June 1768 in Frederick, MD.  The children all born in Frederick, MD, listed are:  Eva Rapp b. 29 Mar 1769,
Margaret Rapp b. 29 Mar 1769 and Catharina Rapp b. 21 Oct 1770.
Supposition:  Barbara Rapp Bagent named a dau. Margaret and another dau. Catherine and a son, Jacob, there is reasonable doubt that she was related to Jacob Rapp and Margaret Rappin.  Barbara married in 1784 when she would have been about 20 yrs. old.

Children of WILLIAM BAGENT and BARBARA RAPPIN are:
      i.    NANCY ANN4  BAGENT14,15,16, b. Abt. 1786, Frederick Co, MD17; m. JACOB ECKMAN18,19,20, December 18, 1821, Frederick Co., MD21.

Another source; Robert Andrews Rootsweb.  Wrote that Jacob Eckman was married to an Ann Bageant and that Catherine Pittenger may be the wrong last name of Jacob's mother.

Notes for JACOB ECKMAN:
Jacob's Grandfather "Jacob" died April 1778 in Frederick Co., MD.  He arrived in American at
Philadelphia, PA.  He bought property in Frederick Co., MD in Sept 1771, his will was written 24 Apr 1778 and probated 30 Apr 1778. (Source the Eckman Book)  This "Jacob's father was Johann Jacob Eckman b. 1687 in Waldorf, Baden, Germany or St. Gall Switzerland, and mar. an Anna.

      4.  JOHN3  BAGEANT, SR. (WILLIAM2, RICHARD1) was born August 10, 1761 in Fort Loudoun, Winchester, Virginia35, and died 1832 in Timber Ridge, Frederick Co., VA36.  He married (1) CATHERINE WHITENACK37 June 7, 1783 in Frederick County, MD38,39.  She was born February 20, 1761 in Frederick Co., MD40, and died 1786 in Frederick Co., MD.  He married (2) CATHERINE LEWIS41 June 12, 1788 in Winchester, Frederick Co., VA42.  She was born 1762 in Perhaps York Co., PA, and died 1855 in Timber Ridge, Frederick Co, VA.

Notes for JOHN BAGEANT, SR.:
It is recorded that John was born during an Indian uprising.  His Mother had taken refuge at Fort Loudoun, where he was born.  There were a string of forts along the western settled edge of this section of Virginia. The various forts in this line were not properly named and any of them could have been called Fort Loudoun.  The fort in Winchester, VA. was named Fort Loudoun also and the only relic left of this fort is a cannon in a small park beside Col. Washington's Recruiting House.   Source:  Tour guide at the Col. Washington Recruiting House, May 2000.
John was apprenticed at the age of 10 to George Sexton in Frederick Co., Va.  He broke his apprentice- ship to serve in the Rev. War in 1777.  His service record is included in his application for a pension.  He was discharged in 1778, at which time he re-enlisted for three years, he saw action and was taken prisoner in May 1780 at Seneca, SC and held until exchanged by the British in March 1781.  He was discharged at Petersburg, VA, Nov. 18, 1781.
After being discharged John moved to Frederick Co., MD and married Catherine Whitenack, after she died he moved from Frederick Co., MD in 1788  to Frederick Co., VA.   He worked at his trade for a John Smith. He then met Catherine Lewis, a Quaker, and they were mar. in 1788.  In 1790 they moved to Liberty Town, Frederick Co., MD.  In 1808 they settled on Timber Ridge in Frederick Co., VA, and stayed until their deaths.
John applied for a Revolutionary War soldiers pension, it was rejected and he had to secure additional information to verify his service.  John had used his discharge papers in Richmond, VA when he applied and was granted land for his military service,  he left his papers there.  He reapplied for the pension on 3 May 1824.  At this time there are five additional verification statements as to his service record in the Revolutionary War.  This additional information obtained his pension of $8.00 a month effective 3 May 1824.  This pension was issued on 7 July 1824 with $32.54 cents paid as arrears to the 4th of Sept 1824.  Payment was sent to Samuel Berat, Esq. in Winchester, VA. (From whom John would pick it up, John and his wife lived a good distance from town.  Have copies of these documents. vb)
From VA Pension Roll of 1835, report from the Sec. of War in Relation to the Pension Establishment of the US 1835.  John Begeant of Frederick Co VA, was a private in the Virginia Line $96.00 annual allowance, $752.51 amount received.  July 7, 1824 pension started at age 73.
His file in the Federal Archives has two pension numbers, S37747 and 19296 one being disallowed.
When John dictated his request for a pension, he listed all of his property and made what I think is a conflicting statement.  He said he had no family except his wife who was an invalid.  As this history will show John Bageant did indeed have a family and many of his children lived close by.  This remains a mystery to me.  Although once again there could be another John Bagent getting mixed up in my research, as with the two Williams.  John died in 1832 and is buried on Timber Ridge, in the Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.  Someone replaced his old tombstone with a granite stone.

A Family History of John Bageant from a family member in W. VA.
Casper MILLER was born 1762 in Germany. He married Barbara Weaver October 09, 1787 in Frederick County, VA.   Notes for Casper Miller:
John Bageant was one of  the Americans who  guarded British/German prisoners, Casper Miller was captured at Trenton. Later, when John's daughter married Casper's son, John and Casper lived with their children. They were both shoe cobblers, and used to fight the war over again, (In German) as they hammered on the shoes. (Note in email sent from Ruth Coddington (Miller) dated March 21, 2000.)
At 14 years of age, Casper was among those who were sold by the Hessian Government to the British to fight against the colonies in the American Revolution. They were chosen by height, not by age. He was taken prisoner by General Washington's forces during the Battle of Trenton and was held prisoner of war at Winchester, VA. Casper stayed in America when released and married Barbara Weaver. (Taken from the Saline County Roots - titled - The Rev. William L. Miller Arrives in 1874)
Information on the children of Casper Miller and Barbara Weaver was received from Ruth Coddington (Miller) in an email dated April 19, 2000. She states the following: "Yes, all 9 children are from Casper and Barbara. My grandma Miller wrote them all down about 1930. That's all she wrote tho."

Notes for JACOB BAGENT:
A Jacob Bageant is listed in the Virginia 1830 Census as living in Loudoun County VA, Shelburn Parrish.
He is listed as being between the age of 20 to 30, as is his wife, no name of wife in 1830 census.
Jacob Bagent filed for divorce from his wife Eleanor:  Affidavit reads (have copy)  To Eleanor Bagent,  Take notice that I shall on the third day of August 1841 at the Office of Master Commissioner Leukett in the Town of Leesburg between the hours of sunrise and sunset of that day, proceed to take the depositions of John Bagent, Philip Richie and Jacob Smith to be read as evidence in a suit now depending in the Circuit Superior Court of Law and Chancery for the County of Loudoun in which you are Defendant and I am Plaintiff.  July 13th 1841. Jacob Bagent.

The deposition of Jacob Smith,  Do you know Jacob Bagent? If so, state as near as you can when he was married, how long he and his wife lived together , where his wife is living now, and what had been her character, and with whom is she now living?  Ans. I do know him.  I do not know when he was married, but I suppose it must have been not less than twelve years since.  I suppose it has been four or five years since they parted, not less than four I think.  I do not know where she is living but it is said she's living at Jacob Waters.  Jacob Waters in the first place hired Jacob Bagent to work on his farm, and furnished him a house to live in, the house is not more than fifty yards from my fence, and during the time he worked for Waters, upon one occasion while I was at work in my field near his house with William Beatty who was working for me, Waters was about the house and Jacob Bagent was out on the farm at work, when from what I saw I was insured to observe to William Beatty "I have my own opinion over there".  Beatty replied "and so have I Misser".  Nothing more haped between us on the subject.  But it turned out just as I thought.  As far as I know she's over living at Jacob Waters, and has been ever since she separated from her husband.  I would call her character bad, she has had children about as regular since she parted from her husband as she had before, and it is my impression that Waters is the father of them and it is generally thought so.  I don't think he denies it, but I never asked him the question nor did I ever hear him say anything on the subject.  Signed:  Jacob Smith

The deposition of John Bagent,  do you know Jacob Bagent?  If so state as near as you can when he was married, how long he and his wife lived together, where his wife is living now, What has been her character and with whom is she now living?  Answer:  I do know him, he's my brother, he was married between twelve and thirteen years since, and he and his wife have been separated about seven years.  She is now living at Jacob Waters.  I saw her there last Saturday.  She has been living with Waters ever since she separated from her husband.  Her character has been accounted very bad ever since she lived at Waters, as bad as it could be I believe.   Question:  Do you know what was the cause of her leaving Bagent her husband?  Answer:  She said he was jealous of her, and that if he did not quit being jealous of her she would leave him.  He replied that he had good cause to be jealous of her and Waters, and she did leave him and went to Waters, house.  This haped between them in my home in presence of my wife and myself.  Question:  Do you know what caused that jealous feeling?  Answer:  No I don't only from what he told me, and he told me that Waters was always running about his house.  Question:  How many children has she had since she left her husband and who is the reputed father of them?  Answer: I believe she had had three.  Waters is the reputed father, at least  that is the general impression.  I heard him, on calling the children to him say "come to your father", and I have heard her threaten them and say "why don't you go to your father", or use some similar words.  Signed John Bagent.
Jacob Bagent was awarded a divorce, he was allowed to take his children from his ex-wife and his ex-wife was made accountable for the costs of the divorce; $30.24.  Sept 22, 1841

Notes for ELLENORA MCGATHEN:
Her name has also been recorded as Ellen McGachen, in Frederick Co Maryland Marriages 1778-1850.
Ellen left her husband Jacob and went to live with Jacob Waters at least six years before her husband divorced her in 1841, about 1836.

LDS records state marriage was on 28 NOV 1828 in New Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lovettsville, Loudoun, Virginia.

Divorce papers state she left Jacob about August or Sept 1836.  She went to live with Jacob Waters.  She had two children with Waters, at the time of this testimony by William Megahy (10 April 1841)
According to Wm Megahy's testimony Ellenora had three children with Jacob Bagent, one had died.  The two still living and with their mother were boys, one was about 10 and the other a year of two younger.
John Bagent brother to Jacob stated Ellenora and Jacob Waters had three children since she left Jacob Bagent.
Philip Richie testified on 14 Sept 1841 that Ellenora had at least two children since moving in with Jacob Waters.
John Waters testified on 14 Sept 1841 that Jacob Bagent took one of his children and went away over night, when he came back he wanted her to live with him again but she said no not as long as she lived.
Samuel Kalb testified on 14 Sept 1841 that Jacob and Elleanor Bagent lived on his place, and that she was too fond of men, but while they lived there she was trying to reform.

They used the same names for their children, as John Bagent's uncle John named his children; James, William, Catherine, Mary and John.   From the book, Marriages of Loudoun Co, VA 1757-1853 Section 2, page 175 "Bagent, William, soldier in the Revolution.  Died intestate leaving no widow but children: William; John; Jacob; Ellen; Catharine, wife of William Mahagon; Nancy, wife of Jacob Eckman; Sarah, wife of Washington Lewis; Mary, wife of Daniel Crim.  John Bagant has since died leaving children: Mary; Catharine; Sarah; Lydia; Raynold; Thomas; Matilda.  13 July 1846. Notes for WILLIAM MAGAHA:
McGaha is also spelled Mahagon in the public records.
1860 Fed Cen. Loudoun Co, VA - Lovettsville - page 188 - 13 Oct 1860 - 1426/1426:
Wm Magaha 60, male, day laborer, value of personal estate $150, born VA
Julia A. Magaha 30, female, born VA
Geo. W. Magaha 25, male, day laborer, born VA
Jns. W. Magaha 24, male, day laborer, born VA
*Note: This household is 2 doors down from the Copeland household. George W. Magaha/McGaha married Sarah Ann Copeland in 1866.

1870 Fed Cen. Loudoun Co, Va - Northern Division - 28 July 1870 - page 104:
Magaha, George W., 36, male, white, laborer, value of personal estate $200, born VA
Magaha, Sarah, 33, female, white, keeping house, born VA
Magaha, John, 3, male, white, born VA
Magaha, Mary, 1, female, white, born VA
Magaha, William, 66, male, white, laborer, born VA
Magaha, Julia, 39, female, white, keeping house, born VA

For those descended from Loudoun McGahas, there has been an assumption that William Magaha, husband of Catherine Bageant, is the brother of David Magaha, father of Armistead (these are the two prominent forefathers of many of the McGaha's in Loudoun). This assumption of David and William being brothers seems to be false. William's father seems to be Patrick McGahey (Note the various spellings for McGaha) Patrick and his wife Mary who had three children. A sister is the eldest, according to the census of 1810; there were also two boys under 10. One appears to be William, born in 1805. There is also another son younger than 10 and a daughter between 10 and 16 in the household at the time.
It appears that David Magaha (father of Armistead of Lovettsville) is the son of Jeremiah MaGaha (spelled at least three different ways). Jeremiah was indentured in the 1780 - 1790's all over the place in Loudoun County and had four sons that can be found that were also indentured/apprenticed: Jeremiah Jr., Curtis, David, and John. According to the 1787 VA Census, Jeremiah Sr. and a Mary McGahey, mother of Patrick lived close to one another. This relationship is undefined at this time. This could make David and Patrick/William cousins if the relationship of Mary and Jeremiah are sibling linked in some fashion. It could also indicate that Mary is Jeremiah's mother, making Jeremiah and Patrick brothers, and David and William first cousins instead of brothers. Any input into these assumptions would certainly be appreciated.
Thanks Mary Fishback at Thomas Balch for helping weed through all this. Hope this is helpful, even if rough, for those trying to trace Loudoun Co, McGaha roots.

      10.  WILLIAM4  BAGEANT (JOHN3, WILLIAM2, RICHARD1) was born August 15, 1784 in Frederick Co., Maryland90, and died September 23, 1863 in Timber Ridge, Frederick Co., VA91.  He married ELIZABETH DICK92 November 19, 1813 in Frederick Co., VA93,94, daughter of JOHN DICK and ELIZABETH HEIRONIMUS.  She was born November 23, 1788 in Winchester, Frederick Co., VA95, and died February 1860 in Timber Ridge, Frederick Co., VA96.

Notes for WILLIAM BAGEANT:
There is little information on this couple in Frederick Co., VA. so they may have lived in Loudoun Co., VA for a time.  They are buried in Timber Ridge, VA in the Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
I found a William Franklin Baijn buried in the Blue Rock Baptist Cemetery in Blue Rock, Ohio, his parents were William and Elizabeth..  He died Mar 25, 1843.  No other information.  I have a hunch that this is the son of William and Elizabeth Dick Bageant.  No proof.  They probably came to Ohio with the other Bagents and after their son died they returned to Virginia.
Frederick Co., VA records Indenture Book 76 page 54: November 30th 1847, a William Bageant purchased from Jacob and William Dailey for the sum of $200, A wagon with bed, bows and fee trough, four horses, a bay named Joe, a gray mare named Pet, a black horse Bob and a Sorrell horse named Jim.  Also five sets of geers.  On Oct 25 1851 Wm Bageant purchased land from the bankrupted James Daily.

Notes for ELIZABETH DICK:
Elizabeth and William were married by Heironimus Dick, Frederick Co.,VA.

      11.  JAMES4  BAGEANT (JOHN3, WILLIAM2, RICHARD1) was born 1785 in Frederick Co.,  MD98, and died Abt. 1846.  He married UNKNOWN.

Notes for JAMES BAGEANT:
James went to the Harper's Ferry, in the Lovettsville area of Virginia. He lived near or in Nearsville, VA.   He had at least three sons, John W. was a blacksmith in George's Mill, his family immigrated to Ohio after his fathers death in 1846.  A son William who married and migrated to Ohio in about 1838 and a son Jacob.  He also had a daughter Catherine. I found no trace of him or of a wife.
Vera:
Uncle William married Barbara Rappin not Rapp. According to Preston he found several Bagent Tombstones Wm. Jr.  1834 around Harper's Ferry and Wm 1810  further down Hwy 671 near Nearsville, VA.  I hope you find something.  Will let you know if I find anything okay
Shirley L Becker"   Aug. 2005
After hearing from you, I re-read the letter my mother's cousin sent to her in 1984 about the Bagent family.  He went to Virginia and found a lot of Bagents and from that letter I got the info about James. I do not remember if I told you about that letter but anyway he stated that James had 3 sons, William, who migrated to Ohio in 1838.  Jacob who we descend from and a daughter Catherine.  Preston (Mom's cousin and author of this letter) went to VA and he said he found a lot of Bagent graves.
He mentioned Highway 671 some Bagent graves are located at St. Paul's Lutheran Church along this highway at Nearsville. There are 3 other cemeteries that he did not check but wished he had. These were near Harper's Ferry.  I hope you get to go, it is suppose to be beautiful country.  According to this letter James went to Lovettsville-Harpers Ferry area.  Keep in touch and so will I.    Shirley.
My trip to this area in October 2005 was not productive, I did not find any trace of James, I asked at the Harper's Ferry State Park and they were no help at all.  The records in the court houses in this area are incomplete having been burned or lost during the Civil War.  The Martinsburg Court House is a disaster, it's too crowded and half their records are "lost".  I know nothing about James Bageant other than what Shirley has sent to me.  At least someone found traces of him which is why he remains in this family history.
Why I think he was the father to William B. who immigrated to Coshocton Ohio in 1834, his son John W. was a blacksmith as was William B who came to Ohio.

Jacob married in 1816 in Winchester, Frederick Co. VA. They moved to Fairfield Co, Ohio in 1841. In 1850 they moved to Van Buren Co, Iowa and are both buried there. Jacob's father was Casper Miller and Mary's father was John Bagent.

He was a Captain in the 31st. Regiment, 16th Brigade, 3rd division of Virginia Militia, fighting Indians.  Before leaving Virginia in 1841 his company presented to him a military dress sword with silver mountings. He had the sword made into two butcher knives and the silver was melted and made into six silver teaspoons with the inscription, "J & M Miller" on the handles.  These silver teaspoons have been handed down through the generations and are now 2003, in the possession of Jane Hutchings of Seattle, WA.
More information from Simon Bagent 09/28/2003.  Jacob was in the War of 1812 and family tradition has it that he was at Fort McHenry at Baltimore when the Star Spangled Banner was written by Francis Scott Key.  He was later a Captin in the 31st. On March 13, 1884, the General Assembly passed an act directing the adjutant general to compile a roster of all those who served from Virginia in the Confederate armed forces.  The project did not begin, however, until Congress' passage of an act in 1903 providing for the assembling of muster rolls for all the Confederate States and Virginia's subsequent creation of the Office of the Secretary of Virginia Military Records (VMR) in 1904.  The work of the Secretary of VMR of assembling muster rolls and other documents related to Virginians in the Civil War was continued by the Dept of Confederate Military Records which was formed by an act of the General Assembly on March 12, 1912.  Major Robert W. Hunter served as Sec. of VMR from 1904 to 1910.  Hunter was replaced by Col. Joseph V. Bidgood who served as Sec. of VMR and later Sec. of the Dept. of Confederate Military Records.  In 1918, the General Assembly passed an act abolishing the Dept. of Confederate Military Records and transferred the dept's records to the Library of Virginia.
The Confederate Rosters are now part of the VA Dept. of Military Affairs record group (RG# 46) housed in the Archives at the Library of Virginia. Joseph D. Bagent is listed in these files. Source: Vol 20, pg. 384 (reel 10).
